Product information

KSFI In-Line Flame Arrester | Deflagration Proof Flame Arrester

The KSFI In-Line Flame Arrester is a specialized safety device designed to prevent flame propagation and explosion hazards within pipelines carrying flammable gases, vapors, fuel, and chemical substances. The device extinguishes flames inside the piping system, helping protect downstream equipment and storage systems from fire and explosion damage.

KSFI flame arresters are widely used in oil & gas, chemical processing, fuel storage, industrial gas systems, and vapor recovery applications.

What Is an In-Line Flame Arrester?

An In-Line Flame Arrester is a passive safety device with no moving parts, installed directly within a pipeline to stop flame transmission from hazardous areas to protected sections of the system.

The KSFI model operates using a flame cell element made from corrugated SS316L stainless steel ribbon material. This specially engineered structure creates a uniform matrix opening that absorbs heat and extinguishes flames before they can continue propagating through the pipeline.

KSFI Flame Arrester Design Standards

The KSFI In-Line Flame Arrester is designed, manufactured, and tested according to major international standards, including:

  • API 2000
  • BS 7244
  • EN 12874
  • ISO 16852

These standards ensure reliable explosion protection performance for industrial piping systems.

Working Principle of the KSFI In-Line Flame Arrester

The device operates by absorbing heat and cooling the flame front.

When flammable vapor or gas ignites inside the pipeline:

  • The flame enters the flame arrester element
  • Heat is absorbed by the SS316L flame cell matrix
  • Flame temperature drops below combustion level
  • The flame is extinguished completely

This design is highly effective for:

  • Slow-moving flames
  • Low to medium pressure flame fronts
  • Low to medium deflagration conditions
